Distribution is the organization, the interweaving of different parts with each other. To simplify, it is generally a question of arrangement. We will distinguish the day / night, parents / children, private / public spaces ... and the exhibition of the rooms in relation to the sun. We will then take care to optimize the spaces that connect the rooms to each other, that is to say the stairs, the corridors and the halls (in architectural jargon: the openings).

Optimal distribution of parts: good exposure

The living room and the kitchen benefit from sunshine by natural light coming from three south-facing windows, the cardinal point of the living rooms. The sun will bring in winter a free heat gain. The kitchen, facing south / east, benefits from natural light in the morning (it will be oriented to the west for daylight at the end of the day). The rooms are oriented to the west, to be more temperate at the end of the evening for a more comfortable sleep. Finally, to the north, the so-called "service" rooms are relayed, that is, the bathroom, the laundry room, the toilets and the garage. As for the cellar, it will serve as thermal insulation between the garage and the kitchen.

Optimal distribution of parts: horizontal clearances

Angélique BLANC In this 106.72 m2 apartment, special treatment has been given to the horizontal openings: hall and corridor. As a general rule, the latter should not exceed 10% of the living area (here, they represent only about 5%). The corridor distributing the private rooms of the apartment is limited to one passage unit (a door opening), which corresponds to an average width of 90 cm. The apartment is entered directly into the living room, the hall being partitioned indirectly by the TV cabinet and the office area. Its width corresponds to two passage units, two people having to be able to cross there without being obstructed.

Optimal distribution of parts: vertical clearances

Angélique BLANC In this duplex with a total surface of 66.46 m2, the distribution of the rooms has been designed according to the location of the vertical clearance, passage connecting the two levels, the staircase. The one chosen here is a ¼ turn model, recommended for space optimization since it requires little space and therefore frees up floor space. It is housed in the entrance and against a wall so as not to impede circulation and its arrival is consistent with the distribution of rooms upstairs: it almost reaches the center of the area to be served, between the two rooms. Note: we should avoid placing the child's bedroom above the living room so that he is not bothered in his sleep by the noises coming from this room.
