The gardens of the Royal Saltworks of Arc and Senans

The gardens of the Royal Saltworks of Arc and Senans

** Here we are in Arc et Senans in the Doubs department. We go back more than 200 years in history, a few years before the start of the French Revolution. Louis XV then built a factory for the production of salt which was, at that time, a very precious commodity on which the state levied heavy taxes. It is around this building with remarkable architecture and classified as a UNESCO world heritage site that the thematic gardens extend which we suggest you visit. The particularity of these gardens is to be reinvented each year according to a theme. Under the guidance of the gardener responsible for the gardens, the 4 hectares surrounding the buildings lend themselves to eleven interpretations of the theme each year thanks to the work of many actors: students of vocational training, garden and architecture historians ... In 2012 , year of the celebration of the tercentenary of the birth of Jean-Jacques Rousseau, it is the philosopher who is in the spotlight through a contemplative and meditative walk in the heart of the plant world. **
